Cinco De Mayo is celebrated this weekend on 5th May and celebrates all things Mexican. Meals are had in homes or restaurants which are decorated with Mexican Bunting and Balloons and there are parades where Mexican Flags are waved and worn as well as Sombrero Hats and Glasses.
Cinco De Mayo is spanish for 5th May which is when this day is observed. Cinco De Mayo is a commemoration of Mexican tradition and remembers the victory of the Mexican Army over France in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Although this is not a national holiday in Mexico the public schools are closed. Elsewhere festivities include Mexican Food in homes or restaurants Decorated with Balloons, Cutouts and Bunting and parades and street festivals where people wear Sombreros, Ponchos, and Glasses. These parades and festivals are always great fun to be a part of.
